The latest rankings released by the Fédération Internationale d'Escrime (FIE) reveal that Iran’s epee squad has improved its standing by five spots reaching the 23rd place.
The improvement was made following Men’s Epee World Cup held on November 17-19 in Legnano, Italy where the Persian outfit landed 12th overall.
In the rankings for epee, South Korea enjoys the top position followed by French and Russian teams. Also, Italy, Ukraine, Switzerland and Hungary come fourth to seventh, respectively.
Iranian epee team had taken part at Legnano World Cup with the roster of Mohammad Esmaeili, Taher Ashouri, Mohammad Rezaei and Amir Kanani. Persian fencers overcame Japanese rivals to find their way to the Table of 16 though they suffered a defeat in the face of Hungary and failed to join the top eight teams.
Epee fencers of Iran later subdued the Chinese squad and lost to Spanish opponents. In their last encounter, Iranian athletes were downed by the Argentinean epee squad and stood in the 12th place overall.
