TEHRAN, Nov. 17 (MNA) – Iran’s ambassador to Sarajevo said, while referring to cultural commonalities between Iran and Bosnia, said the two countries’ relations were no limited to political and economic issues only.

Mahmoud Heidari, Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Iran in Bosnia and Herzegovina, made the remarks at a ceremony in Sarajevo commemorating the reputable Persian poet, Hafez. He pointed to the link between poetry and mysticism, poet and ethics, as well as cultural and literary commonalities shared between Iran and Bosnia saying “interactions between Iran and Bosnia are not limited to political and economic relations, and there have always been intellectual relationship between scholars, poets and intellectuals of the two countries.”

Also, Elwir Musich, a professor of Persian language and literature, while expressing his satisfaction with presence of the Iranian ambassador at the spiritual event, presented a report on the implementation of the Hafez-related programs in Sarajevo, and recounted on the history of reciting Hafez and Rumi poems in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He emphasized the high position of Persian language and literature with Muslims in the Balkan region adding that their presence in Balkan has a long history, and poets and literary figures in the region have taken many influences from Persian counterparts.

Musich added that modeling of Bosnian poets from Iranian poets in the compilation of spiritual poems or the compilation of poetry in Farsi was a sign of the high status of spirituality in Farsi poetry, which is in fact the common language among nations.

We restored the tradition of reciting Hafez poems in the city of Sarajevo and Persian language and literature enthusiasts are present at the ceremony who become familiar with interpretation of the poems by the great poet, he added.

Professor of Persian Language and Literature said, in recent years, tradition of reciting poems by Rumi and Hafez has revived as currently, in addition to Sarajevo, there are also similar meetings in the city of Tuzla which are well received by local people.

The tradition of reading Hafez and Rumi works in Bosnia and Herzegovina is among the literary and cultural efforts to deepen persistent heritage of Persian language and Iranian wisdom in the world.
