STIFF, which was Croatia’s first International Film Festival dedicated entirely to student films, selected Iranian short film Lunch Time as the best cinematic production in its first edition.
The Iranian production has so far appeared in credible festivals including 2017 Cannes Film Festival.
Khorshid Cheraghipour, Rooya Bakhtiari, Amir Taghdiri, Peyman Naemi, Siavash Cheraghipour, Bahram Emrani, Pouria Akhavan, Mohammad Hadadi, Alireza Ghasemi, Mahdi Yegane, Arash Ghasemi are among the cast members of Lunch Time.
The short film narrates the story of a 16-year-old girl who has come to the hospital to identify the body of her mother. The people in charge at the hospital - due to her young age - won't let her into the morgue.
It tackles the problem of the degradation of a woman resulting in her complete dehumanization. The disharmony in social relations leads to a breakdown of a family that is compelled to highly immoral actions in order to survive.
The Student International Film Festival (STIFF) was held from 19th to 22nd October in Art Kino in Rijeka with presence of student films of 21 countries, from Brazil to Indonesia.
STIFF’s film program consisted of 38 mostly short films of all genres (feature, documentary, animated, experimental, hybrid) divided into nine program blocks.
The purpose of the festival was strengthening the local film and video industry by allowing an insight into the work of other filmmakers, encouraging the development of new ideas and establishing an international collaboration in the field of media production.
STIFF’s main goal was to present the best of the student film production from all around the world to local audience, especially to students.
