TEHRAN, Oct. 24 (MNA) – Senior MP Alaeddin Boroujerdi called for the realization of $2 billion worth of trade transactions between Iran and Vietnam as agreed by the two countries’ presidents.

Alaeddin Boroujerdi, Head of the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, made the remark in a meeting with the head and members of Iran-Vietnam friendship parliamentary group in Hanoi on Monday evening.

Boroujerdi, heading a parliamentary delegation, has travelled to Hanoi at the invitation of his counterpart for a four-day visit.

During the meeting with the Vietnamese parliamentary group, Boroujerdi highlighted the two nations’ stance against the hegemony of the United States, adding “the two countries’ shared experiences have shown that in order to preserve national sovereignty and independence, one must address the US from the position of power and dignity.”

He also deemed expansion of parliamentary cooperation a significant step toward improvement of friendly ties between Tehran and Hanoi, and voiced Iranian parliament’s readiness to further develop relations with the Vietnamese parliament.

The Vietnamese side, for his part, attached great significance to exchange of delegations between the two countries’ specialized commissions and conducting regular meetings between parliament speakers aimed at sharing experiences and information on legislation and antiparliamentary monitoring.
