Bahram Ghasemi, the Spokesperson of Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, broke the news on Monday.
Referring to the previous visit of Canadian diplomats to Tehran in May, Ghasemi said that this visit was made in follow-up to the former one to further dialogues between the two countries.
The Iranian diplomat recounted that a positive approach was undertaken in the bilateral dialogues of Tehran and technical issues were discussed by the two sides.
Mr. Ghasemi reminded that the foreign ministers of Iran and Canada had recently met in New York, on the sidelines of the United Nation General Assembly.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was elected prime minister on a platform that included restoring diplomatic ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran. His administration move to dispatch a diplomatic delegation to Tehran in early May was the first time since the previous Conservative government, the Harper government, broke off relations with Iran in 2012.
Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif's first contact with a Canadian Foreign Minister was with Stéphane Dion on the sidelines of a UN meeting in New York in 2016.
"We believe that open and frank dialogue, especially when we disagree, is the best way to effectively address security issues," said Alex Lawrence of Canada after the contacts made in May.
“Canada’s severing of ties with Iran had no positive consequences for anyone: not for Canadians, not for the people of Iran, not for Israel, and not for global security,” said Canadian foreign minister in March 2016, expressing articulate willingness for re-engagement with the Islamic Republic.
