TEHRAN, Sep. 26 (MNA) – Iran’s ICT minister demanded that International Communication Union addresses cancellation of Iranian carriers’ membership in GSMA and apple’s treatment of Iranian developers.

Iran’s ICT Minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi met with Houlin Zhao, the head of International Telecommunication Union (ITU), on the sidelines of the ITU Telecom World 2017 conference taking place in Busan, South Korea from 25-28 September.

Jahromi extended his gratitude to ITU head for his efforts and officially invited him to visit Iran to better recognize the country’s developments in the field of communication and information technology. He also highlighted the importance of further bilateral cooperation.

ICT minister asked for the membership of top five Iranian universities in the union and added, “Iranian universities have the capacity for more active role in the international communication scene.”

Pointing to the ministry’s plan to restructure internet tariffs in Iran, Jahromi requested the head of ITU to dispatch a team of expert consultants within the next month in order to assist Iran with the plan.

Houlin Zhao, for his part, welcomed the request put forward by Iranian official on the membership of top five universities of the country in the union.

Regarding the structure of communication tariffs, he went on to say “a team of professionals will be sent to Iran to offer their expert opinion on restructuring communication services.”

Criticizing GSMA’s decision to cancel Iranian carriers’ membership, Zhao stressed “I will do all I can to correct this decision and will see to the removal of Iranian applications in apple’s App Store.”
