TEHRAN, Sep. 16 (MNA) – Iranian 3X3 Basketball team has so far secured two victories and suffered one loss at 2017 FISU World University League (WUL) underway in China.

In the preliminary stage of the tournament, the 3X3 basketball squad of Iran’s Payame Noor University managed to bag two wins while tasting one loss.

On Friday and in Xiamen Campus of Huaqiao University, the Persian squad, comprising Shayan Kavepour, Aliollah Verdi, Amir Sedighi as well as Payam Kiani, performed stunning athletic skills to pull out a 19-17 win over French rivals who had finished vice-champion in the 2016 edition of the event.

Basketball players of Iran later thrashed the outfit from Indonesia 21-13 though they had previously suffered a defeat in the face of host country contestants in a stiff and head-to-head competition which ended in China’s favor.

Headed by Mohammad Reza Eslami, the Iranian team is scheduled to take on New Zealand today and, in case of scoring a triumph, will make a historic advance to semifinals of 2017 FISU World University League (WUL).

Persian basketball players had landed in the sixth position in the previous edition of the sportive event.

The third edition of WUL 3X3 Basketball kicked off on September 14 in China’s Xiamen and will run through September 17. A total of 16 university teams will be present at the sportive event to represent various continents.
