TEHRAN, Sep. 10 (MNA) – Iranian President Rouhani told his Azeri counterpart Ilham Aliyev that the huge potentials for developing bilateral ties between Iran and Azerbaijan should be activated.

“The two countries [Iran and Azerbaijan] enjoy huge potentials for developing relations in all areas of economy, science, technology, and trade and they should be taken advantage of in favor of the two nations’ interests,” said President Hassan Rouhani of the Islamic Republic of Iran during his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan Republic.

The two heads of states met on the sidelines of the OIC Summit on Science and Technology in Astana on Sunday.

Touching upon the project of the rail road connecting Iran and Azerbaijan, President Rouhani said, “This project, along with other transit routes of north-to-south, not only benefits the relations and cooperation between the two countries, but also has merits for the whole region.”

“Both sides should increase their cooperation on energy, especially for stabilizing the global oil market,” maintained the Iranian president.

“Terrorism is close to complete defeat in the region,” highlighted the Iranian president, “and there should be more exchange of views to fully eradicate it in addition to all cooperative measures in areas of intelligence, economy, and culture.”

President Rouhani also called for more serious steps for implementing the brokered agreements between the two countries.

The Azeri president in this meeting for his part voiced content with the victories and successes accomplished by the Iranian nation and government.
