Alexander Lavrentiev, Russian President's Special Envoy for Syrian Affairs, who is in Iran to meet with Iranian officials to discuss Syrian crises, met with Hossein Jaberi Ansari, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister and top negotiator at Astana talks, on Tuesday in Tehran.
“Iran-Russia relations is developing in different areas and the rate of changes is high,” said the Iranian diplomat in the meeting.
The Iranian deputy foreign minister referred to the report he received briefing the meeting held earlier on Monday between Lavrentiev and Ali Shamkhani, the Head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), and asserted that the being aware of the report will justify the short length of his meeting.
Lavrentiev and Shamkhani met on Monday to exchange views on the positions of the governments involved in the Syrian crisis, the ceasefire process, agreements reached, as well as the latest developments in terms of fight against terrorist groups.
Lavrentiev’s trip aims at negotiating and discussing with Iranian side in order to advance joint political, military and security initiatives.
