TEHRAN, Aug. 15 (MNA) – Presidents of Iran and Russia discussed energy projects, nuclear deal, and the situation in the Middle East during a telephone call on Monday.

During the conversation, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani voiced confidence for closer cooperation with Russia during his second term in office, saying Tehran welcomes the participation of Russian investors and private sector in the country’s notable infrastructure projects, particularly in energy and industry.

President Rouhani stressed the need for more Iran-Russia consultations and cooperation toward the settlement of regional issues in Syria, Yemen, and Iraq, particularly in the fight against terrorism.

Noting that the number of cholera-affected people in Yemen has surpassed 400,000, Rouhani called on the United Nations Security Council to facilitate the process of humanitarian aid to the war-torn country.

Elsewhere, the Iranian president discussed the JCPOA, putting emphasis on the deal’s multilateral aspect and the US measures that are considered in violation of its JCPOA-related commitments; “the Islamic Republic of Iran has lived up to all its commitments under the deal, as it is perfectly evident by the IAEA’s reports,” he said.

Rouhani further called on Russia to play a positive role in cementing the JCPOA and obliging all sides to the deal to implement their commitments.

President Putin, for his part, voiced his country’s resolve for expanding cooperation with Iran, saying Russian investors and businessmen are eager to have a more active participation in joint projects with Iran in the oil and gas, electricity and transport sectors.

Discussing regional developments, President Putin voiced satisfaction over Iran and Russia’s achievements in stabilizing the situation in the Middle East.

He also stressed Iran’s commitment to the nuclear deal as confirmed by the IAEA’s reports, saying any violation from either side of the deal will be considered a violation of UN 2231 resolution.

President Putin further called for more bilateral cooperation with Iran for facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to Yemeni people.
