Persians, who are participating in the Asian tournament in Beirut, met Syria on Friday evening and pulled out a 87-63 victory at the end of an eye-catching showdown.
Competing in Group A, the Iranian squad had opened the Asian debut with a stunning 101-54 victory over India.
Mehran Hatami’s boys were victorious in the first two quarters of the encounter against Syria (28-20, 24-12). Meanwhile, despite an 18-19 loss in the third one, they later secured a much-needed win (17-12) to finish the fourth set and the match in their favor.
In other Group A encounters, Jordan got the better of India (61-54). Furthermore, in two Group B matches held on Friday, Qatar lost to China (67-92) and the Philippines beat Iraq (84-68).
Iranian athletes are slated to take up Jordan on Sunday as their third and last match in the preliminary stage of the basketball event.
Organized by FIBA Asia, the 29th continental basketball championship in Asia kicked off on August 8th in the Lebanese capital of Beirut and will run through August 20 in the Nouhad Nawfal Stadium.
