The Asian tournament was pursued on Sunday morning in Taichung of Taiwan where five freestyle wrestlers of Iran secured spots in the finals and one representative was led to the bronze-medal match.
Nader Nasri of Iran defeated Rattammanun Ratanathiwat of Thailand by technical fall in qualification round of 55-kilogram weight category. He later subdued the Turkmen rival Rozgeldi Seyidov 8-2 in the quarterfinals and suffered a defeat against Uzbekistan’s Jahongirmirza Turobov in the semifinals. Nasri will later meet Chia-Hung Chang of Chinese Taipei in an attempt to stand on the third podium.
Competing at 60kg weight group, Younes Emami downed Unet Erdene Erdenechimeg of Mongolia and Edil Kadyrbek Uulu of Kyrgyzstan by fall in the first two rounds before thrashing Kazakhstan’s Sultan Beisov 12-4 in the semifinals. The powerful Iranian wrestler will need to Indian contestant Sharvan Sharvan in a bid to win the Asian title.
Iran’s other finalist is Amirhossein Hosseini who has set up a date with Ryoma Anraku of Japan in the last encounter of 66-kilo weight group. On road to the final round, Hosseini quelled Mhd Feda Aldin AL Asta of Syria, India’s Karan Karan, as well as the Mongolian freestyler Temuulen Enkhtuya.
Mohammad Mottaghinia represented Iran in 74kg category and struck of off draw in the opening round. He later pulled out a 12-1 victory over Ming-Liang Wang from Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals. He later got the better of Ryuki Yoshida 5-0 to win a spot in the finals against Isa Shapiev of Uzbekistan.
Junior Iranian freestyler Ahmad Bazri will also face India’s Deepak Punia in a bid to snatch gold medals of 84-kilogram weight division. He had earlier outpowered Kazakhstan’s Almas Zhunis 9-3 and Azat Gajyyev fron Turkmenistan by technical fall 11-0. Bazri’s opponent in the semifinals round was Javrail Shapiev from Uzbekistan who suffered a 9-0 defeat.
Last but not the least was Danyal Shariatinia who began the debut from quarterfinals and conquered Muhammet Rozykulyyev from Turkmenistan 10-0. He later pulled out another 10-0 victory over Uzbekistan’s Ibrokhim Ilkhomjonov. The Iranian wrester will clinch the title in case he overcomes the Kyrgyz freestyler Kantoro Talantbek Uulu.
Young freestyle wrestlers of Iran are competing at the Asian tournament to be hosted by Taichung city in Chinese Taipei from June 15-18, 2017.
Earlier on Saturday, Iran’s national junior Greco-Roman squad collected five gold and two silver medals to win the title at 2017 Junior Asian Championships.
