Competing in the multinational and multi-sport event, Iran’s Saman Pakbaz won gold medal of Men' Shot Put F12. His compatriot Masoud Heidari settled for bronze while the third position was occupied by Elbek Sultonov of Uzbekistan.
Hassan Yazdani snatched another gold for Iran by winning the final debut of Men's Freestyle 86Kg against Turkey’s Selim Yasar. Adiet Davlumbayev from Kazakhstan and Sharif Sharifov of the host country jointly stood on the third podium.
Iran’s other freestyler who faced rivals in Heydar Aliyev Arena was Mostafa Hosseinkhani who won the title once he downed Azerbaijan’s Murtazali Raxmatulla Muslimov in final contest of 70kg weight division. Bahraini wrestler Adam Batirov and Zafar Dama of Turkey conceded to bronze medals in the same category.
Zurkhane squad of Iran also crested at Men’s Team Skill competed in Crystal Hall of Baku. Comprising Himan Mirzaei, Mobin Zibalagha, Mohsen Golestanizadeh, Pezhman Sokoonati and Ali Jalijoo, the Persian side landed first overall and was followed by the Azerbaijani team who secured silver medal. Teams from Afghanistan and Iraq jointly settled for bronze.
The three bronze medals on the eighth day of the sportive event were collected by Shahnam Nazarpour (diving) as well as Masoud Esmaeilpour and Jaber Sadeghzadeh (freestyle wrestling).
Accordingly, the four gold, one silver and three bronze trophies increased Iran’s tally of medals to 82 overall securing its third position in the table of medals.
Azerbaijan is on the top of the medal count table with 136 medals (66 gold, 39 silvers and 29 bronzes).
Turkey has claimed the second spot with 172 medals (65 gold, 58 silvers, 49 bronzes), while the Islamic Republic of Iran is on the third with a total of 82 medals (24 gold, 25 silvers and 33 bronzes).
Uzbekistan, Bahrain, Algeria, Indonesia, Egypt, Morocco and Kyrgyzstan have earned the 4th to 10th places respectively.
The 4th Islamic Solidarity Games started in Baku, Azerbaijan, on May 12 under the motto ‘Solidarity is Our Strength’. The tournament will wrap up on May 22, 2017.
