TEHRAN, May 20 (MNA) – Voting for presidential and local elections have just ended as announced by the Iranian Ministry of Interior.

The head of Interior Ministry's State Elections Committee, Ali Asghar Ahmadi, announced that polls were closed across the country though people present inside polling stations will be allowed to cast their votes. 

At 8:00 a.m. on Friday morning and with official announcement of Interior Minister Rahmani Fazli, polls opened in Iran for presidential and city council elections. In addition to electing the president, Iranians voted for the candidates of City and Village Councils, too.

In presidential election, incumbent President Hassan Rouhani and former deputy of Judiciary and current custodian of Astan Quds Razavi (Holy Shrine of Imam Reza) in Mashhad were main contenders in a competition where former minister Mostafa Mirsalim and former VP Hashemi Taba were also running. 

With casting of ballots coming to an end at midnight, counting process will begin in each station. According to officials, presidential votes will be counted first and local votes will be a second priority.
