TEHRAN, May 03 (MNA) – Iranian boys and girls have become vice-champions in rapid category of Asian Juniors and Girls U20 Championships 2017 underway in Shiraz, Iran.

The I.R. Iran Chess Federation, under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation (ACF) and

the World Chess Federation (FIDE), is playing host to the Asian Juniors Chess Championships 2017 being competed in Shiraz, Iran from May 01-11.

A total of 71 chess players from various Asian states are participating in the prestigious continental tournament.

Rapid championships were held on Tuesday following the opening ceremony and Iranian athletes finished runner-up in both boys’ and girls’ divisions.

Accordingly, Minh Tran Tuan of Vietnam collected six points to win the title in Asian Junior Open Rapid event. Meanwhile, Iran’s Masoud Mosadeghpour stood on the second place and his compatriot Mersad Khodashenas landed in the second place overall.

In girls’ division, Sharma Isha from India stood on top of the podium with six points followed by Iran’s Anousha Mahdian who bagged five points to become vice-champion. Guddanti Harshita of India ranked third.

The Championships shall be governed by the General Regulations for FIDE Competitions and these Rules. Trophies and certificates will be awarded to the top 3 players in each category.
