The two parliamentarian delegations of Iran and Russia, the two allies of Syria in the war against terrorists, exchanged views on the latest developments in Syria through a video conference on Thursday and described the Astana talks, initiated by Tehran, Moscow, and Ankara, as an important measure.
The Iranian side of the video conference was headed by MP Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee and comprised of MP Morteza Safari Natanzi and Ramezanali Sobhanifar.
On the other side of the table, Senator Konstantin Kosachev, the chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federation Council (upper house) of the Russian State Duma, was on the lead. Upper House MP Igor Morozov who heads Russian parliamentary group of Iran-Russia friendship and Vladimir Dzhabarov, the First Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Council Committee for International Affairs, were the other Russian senators who made up the Russian delegation.
During the session, the two sides examined different aspects of Iran-Russia cooperation with Syria in fighting against terrorism, and all attempts to find a political resolution for the Syrian crisis through Syrian-Syrian talks of Astana and Geneva.
“The parliamentary meeting is of prime importance and very constructive as it demonstrates that the parliaments of Iran and Russia, alike the governments of the two countries share the same belief about the situation in Syria,” Senator Kosachev told the media about the meeting.
He also affirmed that Iran’s cooperation with Russia and Syria in war against terrorism, according to the approaches in Astana talks, is high of value to Russians. The Russian legislator highlighted that Moscow is aware of the significance of all cooperative measures of Tehran and is grateful about them.
Mr. Boroujerdi the Iranian chair of the meeting told the media that Iran and Russia are adhered to the same principles about the Syrian crisis and that is what they believe to be the right thing. He also referred to foreign supports provided to the terrorist in Russia and hailed the importance of the remote session with the Russian MPs. The Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee asserted that the current critical situation in Syria is the result of a crisis waged by the US and its western and Arab allies.
Also Senator Igor Morozov reiterated that if the westerners were after ending the crisis in Syria, they would not continue supporting and arming the terrorists in Syria.
