The 2017 Asian Cup Ski Mountaineering Competition and the 14th angwon Provincial Governor Cup Korea Skimo Championship were held in High 1 Resort Gangwon-do Province of South Korean on March 11-12.
Competing in Men’s Individual category, Abolfazl Savei of Iran landed behind Russian and Japanese rivals to stand on the third podium overall.
In Juniors’ division, however, Iran’s Abdolrahman Ghazagh clinched a gold medal followed by contestants from the host country and Japan.
Taraneh Rezaei also garnered a bronze medal for the Iranian squad in Women’s Individual section.
Masoumeh Kianizadeh and Marzieh Baha finished fourth and fifth in the same section.
The Persians had previously won one silver and two bronze medals in the Vertical competitions of the Asian tournament.
Ski mountaineering is a skiing discipline that involves climbing mountains either on skis or carrying them, depending on the steepness of the ascent, and then descending on skis.
