TEHRAN, Feb. 22 (MNA) – Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani has said Iraq’s strategic position is one of the causes that terrorism has emerged in the country, hailing the Iraqis will to eradicate the phenomenon.

Larijani made the remarks in his meeting with Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri on the sidelines of 6th International Conference on Palestine Intifada underway in Tehran, on Wednesday.

“Iraq is a great and important country in the region and issues its is facing today, including terrorism, stem from its strategic position,” Larijani said.

He asserted that Islamic Republic is very pleased of Iraq’s military achievements in fight against terrorism, “which is an indicator of Iraq’s determination against terrorists.”

Larijani, hoping for an immediate victory in Mosul, noted the likeliness of prolongation of regional tensions and underlined that they could be affected by developments in international arena “therefore collective cooperation is needed.”

“Iran and Iraq are two independent states that should boost ties in all possible fields; all economic and banking obstacle should be removed,” Iranian official said.

Salim al-Jabouri, for his part, highlighted the importance of holding gatherings like Intifada conference saying “such sessions are beneficial for all Islamic countries and given the vitality of Palestine issue, the conference should be held annualy.”

He also expressed hope for the liberation of western Mosul as soon as possible adding “we awe the victories to our friends particularly Islamic Republic of Iran.”
