TEHRAN, Feb. 11 (MNA) – Secretary of Supreme National Security Council has not ruled out possibility that Russian fighter jets could use Iranian airspace to hit targets in Syrian territories against extremists.

Mr. Ali Shamkhani told reporters that Iran and Russia had promoted their relations to strategic levels especially on Syria; “Iran and Russia cooperate in Syria not in single case, but the coordination is comprehensive, embracing different aspects; accordingly, Iran’s airspace welcomes Russian fighter jets in case they seek hitting terrorists’ targets in Syria,” he added, believing that security officials could consider the case as possible.

However, Shamkhani also said that the issuing permissions would require a relatively complex process where different organizations and regulating bodies could engage to address the two principles of timing and the necessity of the flights over Iranian airspace.
