Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of ‘Jihadi Management and National Security Conference’ on Tuesday in Tehran, Secretary of the Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei advised President Donald Trump to consult with the wise and rational of his country and study the history of Iran-US conflicts before leveling threats against the Islamic Republic.
“Our understanding is that Saudi Arabia and the Zionist regime are egging Trump on to get involved in conflict and challenges with the region,” he said.
“On the one hand, Trump wants to solve America’s economic problems and on the other hand, there are billions of dollars invested in Persian Gulf littoral Arab states,” Rezaei said. “Trump is hiding behind these wordplays to sell weapons and plunder the region’s resources.”
To a question about the best course of action in response to the US threats against Iran, he said “our policy has always been ‘advise first' to prevent war and conflict. But if they put their threats into force, we will defend our nation with all our might and make them regret their decision.”
He went on to add, “we do not consider Trump’s threats as serious, although he is different from Obama. Those who knew the language of Obama may not understand someone like Trump now, but we are aware that Trump has the liability to be led to war under the influence of others.”
“We do hope that this will not happen to the region, and that Trump would leave the region in peace,” he stressed.
