The 20th week of the 2016-17 season of IPL (Iran’s Persian Gulf Premier League of Professional Soccer) got into its second day with four matches held in Tehran, Shahr-e-Quds, Ahvaz, and Isfahan.
In Tehran, Saipa, under Hossein Faraki, garnered a listless 1-0 victory over Fould of Khuzestan, under Na’iem Sa’davi, thanks to the penalty kick at the minute 73 converted by Hamed Shiri. The event was opened at 02:00 P.M. local time at Pars Ghavvamin Stadium of Tehran. Alireza Faghani officiated the fixture.
At Shohada Stadium of Shahr-e-Quds, Peykan hosted Sephan of Isfahan, and Majid Jalali’s side managed to garner a 3-2 victory over the visitors. At 3:00 P.M. local time, Khodadad Afsharian blew the opening whstle of the match. Aref Gholami’s minute 13 goal opened the score for the visitors but near the end of the first half Godwin Mensha converted a penalty for Peykan to let the hosts equalize. Ten minutes late he scored for Peykan at the minute 55 to put his team on the lead. Although Ehsan Hajsafi scored an equalizer 12 minutes later but the penalty kick of the 85th minute was the final blow to Sepahan. Abdollah Veisi, the head coach of Sepahan, resigned after the defeat.
In Ahvaz, the hosts edge past their Mashhadi guests 2-1. Mehdi Mo’meni (39) and Mohammad Tayyebi (93) scored for Esteghlal of Khuzestan while the visitors’ equalizer was scored at the 80th minute by Drissa Diarrassouba.
In Isfahan, Hamed Hossein scored for Saba of Qom, at the 84th minute of the game, to let Marfavi’s side be the only visiting team of the day who not only have conceded to a defeat but has also won the fixture.
