TEHRAN, Jan. 31 (MNA) – Head of Iran-North Korea Parliamentary Friendship Group, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, said the two countries are in a unified front against US extortion attempts and will stand firm against any West-imposed sanctions.

Chairman for the Committee for Foreign Policy and National Security of Iran Alaeddin Boroujerdi who heads Iran-North Korea Parliamentary Friendship Group made the remarks in a meeting with North Korean Ambassador to Tehran Kang Sam Hyon on Monday afternoon.

During the meeting, Boroujerdi noted the good ties between the two countries, adding “expansion of relations and cooperation between Tehran and Pyongyang in various fields of mutual interest particularly in the parliamentary area will benefit both nations and thus needs to be given serious attention and further efforts.”

He went on to stress that the Parliamentary Friendship Group is fully committed to development of friendly relations between the two countries.

“Reciprocal visits of officials of both countries and holding talks on bilateral issues will have remarkable significance and impact on taking newer steps toward improving bilateral ties,” Boroujerdi stressed.

The North Korean ambassador, for his part, noted his country’s interest in developing relations with Iran in various fields, adding “Tehran and Pyongyang both have ample capacities that need to be exploited for further expansion of bilateral cooperation.”

“North Korea is committed to developing political, economic and defense cooperation with Iran,” he stressed.

He went on to add, “the US is the source of instability and insecurity in various regions of the world and North Korea backs Iran’s positions against America’s extortion attempts and imperialist interventions.”

He further called for closer cooperation between the two countries.
