On the second day of the sportive event underway in Thailand, Iranian para athletes pulled out a sweeping victory over Australian rivals.
National wheelchair basketball players of Iran gained the upper hand in all four quarters of the decisive match against Australia (20-09, 41-21, 57-44 and 65-61) to become victories overall.
The country’s outfit had earlier subdued Thailand and India for today’s triumph over Australians to mark their third victory in a row.
Iran’s para basketball players, for their fourth encounter, are scheduled to take up Chinese rivals on Wednesday.
Six countries are participating in the championship, which started on Monday in Bangkok, Thailand and will run through Saturday January 28.
Amirreza Ahmadi, Mahdi Mazloum, Mahdi Mandegar, Ali Karimi, Mojtaba Kamali, Mohammad Sayari, Homayoun Asgari, Mahdi Abbasi, Peyman Mizan, Hassanali Kabi, Seyed Mahdi Mousavi, Reza Eyvazi represent Iran at the qualifying tournament.
The present teams from across the Zone are competing for three spots at the U23 World Championships in Toronto in June include Thailand, Iran, Australia, China, India and Japan.
The tournament promises to have high level games with many close results. A simple loss of concentration from any team could easily see them eliminated from the medal round and consequently miss the opportunity to go to Canada.
