Competing in the 49-kilogram weight group, Payman Shahpari failed to reach the finals after conceding a defeat to a host country rival and brought home a bronze medal.
Having lost to a Georgian contestant in the fourth round, Iran’s Ashkan Rezaei stood on the third podium in the 52kg weight division.
Two more bronzes were added to Iran’s tally of medals by Ashkan Rashid and Amir Mohammad Nourshad who competed in 64- and 91-kilogram weight categories.
Manager of the national Iranian junior boxing team Hossein Nohroudi said “given the fact that members of the Iranian team are moving from adolescence to adulthood, their performances in the contests were acceptable.”
He also voiced optimism that Iranian boxers could improve their skills and promote their bronzes to higher-ranking medals in other international arenas.
The Iranian outfit in the sportive event comprises seven junior boxers. Meanwhile, dozens of athletes from several countries, including Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran and Kazakhstan, are competing in the sportive event.
