TEHRAN, Dec. 13 (MNA) – Iran’s FM Zarif in a Mon. meeting with head of National Iraqi Alliance said Tehran-Baghdad relations could serve as a good model for regional cooperation.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif held talks with Sayyed Ammar al-Hakim, Head of National Iraqi Alliance and Leader of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq who headed a delegation of Iraqi Shia confederation to Iran. The meeting was followed by a joint press conference about Iraqi developments and Hakim’s fellow party’s positions.

During the meeting, Hakim presented a report on the current political conditions and situation on the ground in Iraq, and appreciated Iran's support for Iraqi government and nation.

Zarif, for his part, lauded the political and military success of Iraqi government, people and all political parties and ethnic groups in Iraq, saying “the move to form national alliance within the framework of national reconciliation is highly significant for the political future of Iraq.”

He went on to note the possibility for cooperation among all groups inside Iraq, calling on certain countries in the region to refrain from bringing their own problems into Iraq.

Zarif further maintained that the UN approval of Iraq’s national reconciliation plan is also a great achievement for the Arab country.

The senior diplomat deemed Iraqi security as highly important for the Iranian national security, adding “we will spare no assistance and facility in the service of Iraqi government and nation.”

“We will take all the necessary steps toward the restoration of security and stability in Iraq, and call on all Iraqi groups to take steps in the same direction,” he said.
