Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting with Ammar Al-Hakim, the Head of Iraq’s Shia National Alliance, and his entourage on Sunday morning in Tehran.
The Leader voiced his satisfaction over the formation of an alliance among Iraq’s Shia groups, deeming it a ‘significant event’. He also stressed the need for preserving and improving the foundations of this unity and extending a fatherly look and open arms to all Iraqi parties, ethnic and religious groups under this alliance.
Ayatollah Khamenei deemed a key duty of the national alliance as giving support to the governments established in Iraq, adding “the People's Mobilization Forces of Iraq are a great source of wealth and a major reservoir for the present and future of Iraq, and need to be supported and strengthened.”
He further evaluated matters of science and research as highly significant for the development of Iraq, saying “improving the status of universities and consolidating the columns of science and research in Iraq must be given serious consideration, especially given the fact that Americans and other enemies of Iraqi nation have murdered many of this country’s scientists.”
Iran’s Leader maintained that the permanent advice of the Islamic Republic is the lack of trust in the US, adding “in the Islamic Republic of Iran, every time we followed this advice, it proved to be beneficial to us, and every time we let it be forgotten, we made losses.”
Ayatollah Khamenei further stressed the relevance of distrusting the US, noting “contrary to their superficial claims, the Americans by no means intend to eradicate Takfiri terrorism and in fact, they endeavor to preserve a part of these terrorists for their own future objectives.”
“Americans are reluctant to allow the complete defeat of Takfiri terrorists in Iraq’s Mosul, as well as in Syria,” he said.
At the beginning of the meeting, Ammar al-Hakim expressed his gratitude for Ayat. Khamenei’s guidance and the Islamic Republic’s support to Iraq, and presented the Leader with a report on the formation process of the National Alliance and the measures taken so far.
“One of the important results of the formation of National Alliance in Iraq was the passing of a law that legalized the People's Mobilization Forces (PMF),” al-Hakim said, adding “in addition to gaining a vote of confidence from the representatives of the national alliance, the PMF also managed to gain the trust of a large number of representatives from other parties.”
