TEHRAN, Dec. 11 (MNA) – Member of Iran’s national fencing team Alireza Soleimani managed to scoop the country’s first ever medal at a Satellite event held in Antalya, Turkey.

Iranian foil fencer Soleimani reached the Table of 4 at the Antalya Satellite Tournament which was held in Antalya 10-11 December 2016.

In the semifinals, he faced Turkish national fencer Martino Minuto and faced a defeat missing the chance to secure a place in the finals.

Accordingly, Soleimani was awarded a bronze medal which marks Iran’s first ever trophy in Satellite competitions in foil weapon.

On road to the Main Table of the sportive event, the Iranian contestant had defeated representatives from Kuwait, Georgia and Turkey.

Meanwhile, Iran’s other fencers Alireza Adhami, Arash Maleksabet, Hadi Razavi, Vahid Zolfaghari as well as Shahab Shams Tabrizi failed to overcome rivals and dropped out of the 2016 FIE Satellite Men's Foil in Turkey's Antalya.
