Abbas Akhoundi, Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development, said Sunday that during the visit of Germany’s Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, Alexander Dobrindt, to Tehran, six memorandums of understanding were signed between the two sides that could further boost transport cooperation.
According to him, a German company has taken part in a tender for completing the two terminals in Chabahar Port.
“We are now in talks with Germany’s Siemens for developing suburb transport in Tehran and Tabriz, as well as speeding up Tehran-Tabriz rail lines,” Akhoundi said, expressing hope that the negotiations would yield desirable results.
The German Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure has traveled to Iran heading a delegation of major shipping, port and marine companies.
Earlier this October, German Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel visited Iran with representatives of 100 firms, including Siemens and Volkswagen, present in his accompanying delegation. During the two countries’ fifth Economic Commission’s meeting, 10 MoUs were signed between Iran’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance and Germany’s Minister of Economy and Energy, covering a wide range of areas for cooperation including project financing, mutual investment, joint ventures, banking and insurance cooperation, infrastructure in oil, gas and petrochemical sectors, renewable energy, railway, environment, roads and urban development, automotive, airlines and technology transfer.
