“Syrians now are through a difficult test of their moral integrity and perseverance any nation would be in a point in their history; however, the most enduring phenomenon is nations’ resistance toward a better future; in Syria, as elsewhere in the Middle East, foreign intervention and multinational terrorism are roots of plights region faces,” Rouhani lamented; “the Islamic Republic of Iran continues its principled policy of supporting neighbors’ territorial integrity and sovereignty as a guiding principle, and Syria is not an exception; we believe helping Iraq and Syria out of the crisis and change of international borders will not solve any problem; we will be constant as northern star in helping Syrians in fighting terrorism, and that no other solution is available for others than fighting terrorism,” he emphasized.

President Rouhani told Khalaf Abbas with a wave of optimism in his tone that the ultimate triumph would be of Syrians; “we hope to see negotiations where Syrian government and that spectrum of opposition committed to a national resolve in deciding the future of the country sit in a plenary of all ethnic, religious, and tribal factions to hit an agreement; that day, we believe, will be any time soon,” he said.

Mrs. Hediyeh Khalaf Abbas for her part, hailed meeting with Rouhani, and shared his view that Iran and Syria enjoyed cordial ties; “I express gratitude for Iranian government and nation for their unconditional support for Syria in fight against terrorism; Syrian people should be the major decision-maker about the future of the country and we recommend the US and other major powers to seriously and sincerely fight terrorism if they are to help Syrians,” she briefly told the meeting.
