Finals of Women's P2-10m Air Pistol-SH1 competitions convened on Friday in Rio’s Olympic Shooting Center where Iran’s representative Javanmardi bagged 193.4 points to stand on top of the podium.
Sareh Javanmardi, who had clinched a bronze at London 2012 Paralympic Games, together with her compatriot Alieh Mahmoudi were competing against rivals from Turkey, Ukraine, Macedonia, Azerbaijan and Hungary in the final round.
Earning only 72.7 points, Alieh Mahmoudi was the first athlete to drop out of the event in stage one of the finals. Later, Macedonian, Turkish, Hungarian and Azerbaijani athletes were eliminated.
Eventually, Sareh Javanmardi of Iran, Olga Kovalchuk of Ukraine and Turkey’s Aysegul Pehlivanlar had to compete for the title.
Pehlivanlar of Turkey conceded to a bronze medal with 172.3 points while Ukraine’s Kovalchuk stood on the second podium.
Meanwhile, Javanmardi managed to register her name as Iran’s first gold medal winner in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games with 193.4 points which also marked a new world record.
The shooting competitions at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games started on September 8, and will run through September 14.
The Mina delegation of Iranian Paralympians at the Rio Paralympics is comprised of 111 sportspeople who vie at 12 fields of the 23 athletics.
