RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 16 (MNA) – Iran’s 98kg and 66kg Greco-Roman representatives began the tournament with wins against their Venezuelan rivals, but didn't continue as expected.

In 98kg category, Ghasem Rezaei had an off draw in the first round and faced Venezuelan Luillys Pérez and defeated him 8-0. He then faced Cuban Yasmany Daniel Lugo Cabrera who had defeated Chinese Xiao Di in his 2nd round match. But 2012 Olympics gold medalist did not perform as expected and lost the game 4-0 to lose his hopes. However, with his Cuban rival managing to go to final game, Rezaei is given a second chance to fight for a bronze medal versus Xiao Di from China.

Meanwhile, in 66kg category, Omid Nowrouzi won Venezuelan Wuileixis De Jesus Rivas Espinoza 2-1 after a first round off draw on Tuesday to keep hopes of medal for Iranian camp alive. Nowrouzi's hope however did not last long and he was defeated by Shmagi Bolkvadze of Georgia in the quarterfinals 2-1 to bid a bittering farewell to Rio 2016 Olympic games.
