TEHRAN, Jul. 16 (MNA) – Iran's Foreign Minster Mohammad Javad Zarif held a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu over Friday night’s developments in the Eurasian country.

During the telephone conversation held between Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu, the Iranian top diplomat was informed of up-to-the-minute developments in Turkey and the country's adoption of necessary political and security measures in response to the attempted uprising by the country's military units on Friday night.

Following the release of the coup's news on media, Javad Zarif expressed his concern on the developments in Turkey in a tweet, adding “stability, democracy & safety of Turkish people are paramount. Unity & prudence are imperative."

Zarif later posted another tweet in which he hailed people's role in changing the course of events in Turkey, saying "Turkish people's brave defense of democracy and their elected government proves that coups have no place in our region and are doomed to fail."
