TEHRAN, Jul. 11 (MNA) – The national Iranian cadet Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling teams managed to finish first and third respectively at the 2016 Cadet Asian Championship in Taiwan.

The 2016 Cadet Asian Championship kicked off in Taichung, Taiwan, on July 7 and came to an end on July 10.

Iran’s Greco-Roman squad stoop on top of the podium with a total of eight medals including six gold, one silver and one bronze.

Omid Arami (42kg), Mohammad Mehrabi (46kg), Mohammad Hosseinvand (50kg), Mohammadreza Mokhtari (58kg), Hossein Forouzandeh (76kg) and Hassan Forouzandeh (85kg) scooped gold medals while Reza Mardi (54kg) and Mohammadreza Rostami won silver and bronze medals, respectively, for the Iranian team to win the title with a total of 83 points.

Iran was followed by India with nine medals including three silver and six bronze, and 74 points as well as Kazakhstan who stood in the third place by snatching seven medals: two gold, two silver and three bronze, having collected 70 points.

Freestyle wrestling outfit of Iran, however, came third in the Asian event by winning four gold, one silver and one bronze medals bagging a total of 75 points.

The title-winner in freestyle section was Kazakhstan who scooped 82 points followed by Indians who stood on the second podium with 78 points.

Iranian freestyler at 43-kilogram weight category Abolfazl Aramideh had to defeat Abdymalik Karachov in order to win the bronze medal while he had subdued Hsuan-Pin Lin of the host country earlier in the repechage round. Aramideh had previously won over Kumar Sahil of India in the first round though he conceded a 0-7 defeat against Kazakhstan’s Shair Shabanov in the second.

Competing at 46-kilogram weight group, Amirhossein Khodabakhshi breezed past Temirlan Bolsunbek Uulu of Kyrgyzstan 8-3 though he conceded a 0-10 defeat against Uzbekistan’s Rustambek Jureva. Later he hammered Rattammanun Ratanathiwat of Thailand by technical fall in the repechage round though he finished in the fifth place overall after conceding a 2-3 defeat against Hyonsong Han of North Korea.

Iran’s other freestyler at 50kg category Amir Parasteh defeated Kazakh (10-0), Uzbek (6-0) and Kazakh (12-2) athletes on road to the final round where hammered Kaito Morikawa of Japan adding one more gold medal to Iran’s collection.

Hassan Forouzandeh (85kg) at Greco-Roman group also reached the final round by prevailing over Kyrgyzstan’s Medar Abykeev (2-0) as well as Mostafa Gasanov of Kazakhstan (5-0). Forouzandeh, who had struck an off draw in the first round, prevailed over the Indian wrestler Kumar Sunil winning the Asian title.

Iran’s heavy-weight Greco-Roman wrestler Mohammadreza Ramezani got the upper hand over Kamil Dzhumaza of Kyrgyzstan in the qualification round though he conceded an 8-0 defeat against India’s Aawesh Aawesh in the quarterfinals dropping out of the tournament.
