Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani addressed the Conference on commemorating National Judiciary Week on Tuesday attended by heads of the three branches in Tehran, saying “a judicial system may be ethical and honorable in every sense, but that does not always entail people’s full trust in the court system; this means that more important than judgment, it is perhaps the transparency of judicial activities to help gain people’s trust.”
He went on to add, “a country is responsible for ensuring the security of its foreign embassies. If the people are to know clearly what measures the judicial system has taken in response to incidents regarding embassies, people’s trust in the judiciary as well as the international trust for the country will be further improved.”
“If the establishment fails to gain people’s trust, we have no doubt lost the greatest social capital,” Rouhani stressed.
The President further addressed the judicial system to be more transparent with people, adding “what is important to people is not mere settlement in cases but to find answers to their questions regarding the case.”
Rouhani went on to highlight the importance of respecting people’s rights, saying they should be able to feel that the judiciary is protective of people’s freedom and rights.
Elsewhere, President Rouhani maintained that the country’s major objective in pursuing the nuclear deal was to create proper conditions inside the country for economic growth and job opportunities for the younger generation, adding “today, the objective is of more priority than ever and conditions are provided better than ever, yet the government cannot carry this burden without the help and support from the judicial system.”
Rouhani criticized the lack of close relationship between the Executive and Judicial powers, saying “today, the judiciary is acting more independently from the Executive branch, but the two sides need to have closer relationships for advancing the country’s objectives.”
