Following his triumph of ‘A Separation’ in winning the 84th Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2012, Iranian acclaimed filmmaker Asghar Farhadi once again struck gold with his latest feature, ‘The Salesman’, which is a skillful spin on Arthur Miller’s play.
'Forushande' ('The Salesman') won two awards at the 69th staging of Cannes - best screenplay, and best actor, won by Shahab Hosseini.
The 42-year-old actor won Golden Globe and Berlinale’s Silver Bear for Best Actor for his part in 'A Separation'.
"This prize belongs to my people and I give it to them with all my heart," Hosseini said upon receiving Cannes’ Best Actor Award.
"My films are not happy films but I am glad that my prizes can make at least a part of my people happy,” Farhadi said.
'The Salesman' was initially released in Cannes Film festival and it is expected that the formal release will be on 2 November 2016 in France.
The festival’s Palme d'Or went to British director Ken Loach for his film 'I, Daniel Blake'. Loach had won his first Palme d'Or in 2006 for 'The Wind That Shakes the Barley'.
