TEHRAN, Apr. 28 (MNA) – Iran’s defense minister has told Russian counterpart cooperation of Iran and Russia has restored stability to Syria, precipitating a collapse of terrorists’ strongholds.

Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehghan who is visiting Moscow met with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on the sidelines of Moscow International Conference on Security to discuss latest developments in the region as well as bilateral matters of interest.

Both defense ministers highlighted extended defense cooperation and believed that fight against terrorism was of crucial importance in current conditions. “Current arrangements in bilateral defense understanding provide excellent grounds for both sides to implement new deals,” they were unanimous.

“Bilateral cooperation and efficacy in regional developments are crucial in fighting terrorism especially in Syria,” Mr. Dehghan told the meeting. “With very close positions and views on many developments, we could draw better prospects for both sides for strategic partnerships in the future,” he added. “Iran-Russia cooperation has effectively restored stability and precipitated a terrorism overthrow in Syria. I believe these efforts should be continued for more favorable outcomes.

Gen. Shoigu for his part hailed Dehghan’s participation in the Conference and his ‘very constructive address;’ “Russia welcomes long-term relations with Iran; coordination and relations between defense ministries constitute a bedrock for more strategic ties in the future,” he added. “We believe Iran and Russia should strengthen efforts to perpetuate their constructive role in Syria and ultimate defeat of terrorism in the country.”
