Hossein Jaberi Ansari who was speaking to the press on Monday addressed a host of issues including Iran’s tense relations with its regional rival Saudi Arabia, Mr. Zarif’s visit to New York, and US court verdict to use Iranian frozen assets to pay as recompense for the victims of a 1983 blast in Beirut which had killed 241 US military personnel.
“In a volatile region as the Middle East, attempts to forcefully change the course of events and to return it back to status quo ante would prove aborted, since it will definitely succumb to the wills of nations on whose fate these stratagems try to decide; dividing and disrupting politics would soon be defeated,” said Jaberi Ansari, adding, “these regional players should consider evident issue and wisely avoid very costly policies which would be imposed to nations.”
“FM Zarif participated in New York meeting to sign Paris Agreement on Climate Change along with officials of other 175 countries,” he added.
“Saudi Arabia had been blowing hot and cold in revoking its visa for Iranians; the latest situation however issued visa for Iranian diplomats; we had adopted a policy which secures our national interests, and despite Saudi officials, avoided escalation of hostilities; we would not welcome extremes in the political relations, however, our policies of observing expediencies of both sides have emboldened the kingdom’s officials; our patience would soon reach its limits, and Saudi officials should consider this,” he detailed about a question on bilateral ties with the Saudi Arabia and prospects of conflict.
About government official’s different statements about the US appropriation of $ 2bn of Iran’s existent frozen assets, Jaberi Ansari said that the act violated the international relations principles; “the US has overridden the international laws which is beyond its jurisdiction; politically seen, the act demonstrates that they lack necessary will to improve and repair trust upon themselves by Iranians,” he added.
Jaberi Ansari reiterated Iran’s policy of sending military advisory group to Syria which had been according to requests made by Syrian government as closing parts of his press conference.
