TEHRAN, Feb. 21 (MNA) – Iran’s Hassan Rouhani has received Russian Defense Minister where he presented Rouhani with a special message by President Putin of Russia.

General of the Army Sergey Shoigu, Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation is visiting Tehran and was received this evening by President Rouhani. They discussed the latest developments in the region, stability, and the ceasefire on Syria. Mr. Rouhani believed that the crisis would be best solved through respecting Syrian people’s rights as the major decision-makers about their own political future which was viable only through a political dialogue of Syrian groups.

President Rouhani provided an outline of Iran’s positions on all regional developments especially on Syrian crisis. Shoigu, for his part, presented Rouhani with a special message by President Vladimir Putin of Russia along with a general report of the negotiations underway to bring stability to the country.

Iran and Russia are allied in Syria in their support for Bashar al-Assad vis-à-vis western and some Arab countries in the region who had been supporting terrorists of ISIL and Al-Nusra Front who fight Assad forces.

The recent Munich talks of February 12 on Syria decided on a ‘cessation of hostilities’ to be implemented within a week. John Kerry, US Secretary of State and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov waged a laudable attempt to hit the cessation of hostilities which displayed an international strong will to find a solution to Syrian crisis.
