MADRID, Feb. 20 (MNA) – Spanish deputy FM Ignacio Ybáñez in a Fri. meeting with Iranian counterpart Takht-Ravanchi said Spain seeks to revive its economic ties with Iran and recover its position as one of Iran’s major trade partners.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Euro-American Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi met with Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Ignacio Ybáñez, on Friday and discussed bilateral, regional and international issues including the situation in Syria, Afghanistan, Lebanon, climate change and the fight against terrorism and extremism.

The Iranian diplomat welcomed Spanish companies’ interest in cementing their economic ties with Iran in the fields of oil and gas, infrastructure, renewable energies, tourism, auto parts, agriculture and petrochemicals.

Takht-Ravanchi further commended Spain’s positive position in advancing Iran-EU relations and the European country’s constructive role in the UN Security Council, highlighting the importance of regional consultations between Tehran and Madrid for establishing peace and stability in the region, as well as combating common challenges and threats such as terrorism and extremism.

Ybáñez, for his part, expressed his satisfaction with the commencement of political talks between Iranian and Spanish deputy FMs, saying his country follows the policy of constructive talks and developing ties with Iran in all areas, particularly in the field of economic cooperation.

He also called for expansion of cultural, scientific and research relations between Iran and Spain.

Also on Friday, Takht-Ravanchi held talks with Jaime García-Legaz, Secretary of State for Trade Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, on various ways for expanding bilateral economic relations.

He also delivered a speech at Elcano Royal Institute in Madrid on the regional and international impacts of Iran’s nuclear deal and the Islamic Republic’s foreign policies in fighting terrorism and extremism, restoring regional stability and expanding ties with the European Union. 

Takht-Ravanchi met with Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo on Thursday, conferring on ways of consolidating bilateral ties as well as regional, international developments.
