TEHRAN, Jan. 07 (MNA) – The visiting Iraqi FM met with Iranian President Rouhani on Wednesday and exchanged views on the latest regional and bilateral developments.

The more peace and success for Iraqis means the more content Iranians are, said President Hassan Rouhani of the Islamic Republic of Iran on Wednesday evening during his meeting with visiting Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari in Tehran.

The President made the remark commenting on the latest victories of the Iraqi army and people’s resistance in fighting against terrorists and Takfiri extremists in the west and north of the Arab country.

Bolstering national unity, keeping land sovereignty, and developing infrastructures of Iraq, as a friendly neighbor of the Islamic Republic of Iran, matters a lot for Iranians, highlighted Rouhani with stressing on all-out expansion of bilateral ties.

The Iranian president also greeted the Iraqi official for successful handling of the big congregation of pilgrims during Arbaeen ceremony and thanked Iraqis for hospitality and generosity toward Iranian pilgrims.

The latest acts and speeches of Saudi Arabia in the case of execution of Sheikh Nimr was a move toward widening the gaps and worsening disagreements, said Rouhani reiterating that Iran’s foreign policy is based on good relations with neighbors, cement of stability, and regional cooperation; as it is followed by all Iranian officials.

He underlined that Iran has never been after regional disputes or tensions and highlighted that the Islamic Republic has always been following expansion and development of ties with the countries of the region.    

While the whole region is in dire need for unity against terrorism, hasty, unwise, and provocative measures stoke the frictions and endanger the interests of the region, lamented the Iranian president.

Rouhani restated that Iran’s will is to lessen the discord in the Islamic world and increase unity among Muslims, noting that the Islamic Republic of Iran has never moved against the interests of any country in the region and has always been endeavoring for more cooperation, peace and stability for the states of the region.

For his part, the Iraqi minister, during the meeting, stressed on the necessity of better ties with Tehran and called for all officials of Iran and Iraq to try for expansion of bilateral ties.

Iran has always undertaken wise and calculated steps showing braveness in its approaches, said al-Jaafari hailing Iran’s policies in the region and the world.

He condemned any provocative measure in the region that mars the harmony of Muslims and voiced hope that in meeting his Arab counterparts good decisions be made for the region.
