TEHRAN, Jan. 03 (MNA) – With the operation of new phases of South Pars gas field, the capacity of Shourijeh Gas Storage Facility in Khorasan Razavi has increased twofold.

Coinciding with the soar in gas production capacity in South Pars field as well as in gas supply, the scope of the country’s largest underground gas storage reservoir has also experienced a twofold increase.

During the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year (starting March 21, 2015), more than one billion and 114 million cubic meters of natural gas has been stored in Khorasan’s Shurijeh Facility as the largest underground reservoir in the Middle East which indicates a 93 per cent growth.

During the first 276 days of the current Iranian year which began on March 21, 2015, a total of 10 billion and 972 million cubic meters of natural was produced in north eastern reservoirs of the country, a major part of which has been stored in Shurijeh storage tank.

Moreover, with the implementation of new phases of South Pars gas field as well as the increased supply to power generators and petrochemical industries since the beginning of the current Iranian year, the amount of sweet gas harvest from Shurijeh Facility has almost shrank by half compared to the last year.

Currently, a daily average of nine million and 500 thousand cubic meters of gas stored in Shurijeh tank is being harvested and might increase up to 12 million cubic meters during the peak demand.

Meanwhile, Director of production at the Iranian Central Oil Fields Company (ICOFC) Alireza Toranj Zard had announced last week that “Iran has installed a new gas-liquid separation center at Shourijeh Gas Storage Facility in Khorasan Razavi Province to boost recovery from the facility by nearly 12 million cubic meters per day.”
