Following public protests first outside Saudi consulate in Mashhad in northeastern Iran and further in front of Saudi embassy here in Tehran, which ended up in attack on the embassy, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari has communicated a statement.
The statement reasserts condemnation of ‘unfair’ execution of religious figure and scholar Sheikh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr and highlights the necessity of protection of diplomatic entities of Saudi Arabia in both cities.
“Understanding the pure sentiments of Muslim people of our country, Foreign Ministry urges restriction from any gathering outside these places,” reads part of the statement issued at midnight shortly after the protests.
Jaberi Ansari has also emphasized that providing the security for diplomatic entities of the Saudi Kingdom is the responsibility of diplomatic police and has asked them to provide the security according to the nature of their duties.
