TEHRAN, Dec. 16 (MNA) – The Iranian sabre fencer Mojtaba Abedini has climbed four places in the newest International Fencing Federation rankings, moving within the top 20 in the overall standing.

Following the Absolute Fencing Gear FIE Grand Prix B oston event which was held at Harvard University's Gordon Indoor Track, Boston, the US for two days, the latest ranking was released by the Fédération Internationale d'Escrime (FIE).

Accordingly, Mojtab Abedini, Iran’s top sabre fencer who presented the best performance among Iranians attending the Boston Sabre Grand Prix, has moved up four spots from 22 to 18.

The move marks a significant achievement since the top 14 fencers in the overall standing will receive quotas to Rio Olympic Games.

Having reached the Table of 32 after winning over the Russian fencer Ilya Motorin 15-13, Iran’s Mojtaba Abedini conceded a defeat against Alexy Yakimenko of Russia 11-15 to finish 22nd in the Boston tournament.

Meanwhile, the other two Iranian fencers who had even reached the Table of 64 in Grand Prix 2015 Boston Sabre Grand Prix moved down one place in the latest rankings where Ali Pakdaman and Mohammad Rahbari currently stand in 29th and 41st positions respectively.

Mohammad Rahbari had finished 41th in the Grand Prix while Ali Pakdaman had only managed to stand in the 48th place.
