The new round of talks between Iran and Russia was held aimed at signing a contract for building new electric power plants, synchronizing the electric grid as well as exploring Iran's deep groundwater resources.
Accordingly, Iran’s Deputy Energy Minister Hoshang Falahatian and Managing-Director of Russia's Technopromexport Company and of Russia's State Energy Agency Anatoly Tikhonov have started meetings and discussions in Tehran.
Describing the conducted negotiations with the Russians, Falahatian said, "discussions were made on partnership to run two projects in the electricity sector and one project in the water sector leading to preliminary agreement on all the three cases."
Deputy energy minister announced that the first issue was construction of a 1400MW thermal power plant in Bandar Abbas; "during the expert's sessions, technical specifications of the power plants have been finalized and the economic studies are being undertaken where we expect a real price which is competitive with other countries," he asserted.
The official deemed the second theme of the agreement as synchronization of electric power networks of Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran adding "technical details of the project have been prepared and Iran's will soon offer its response to Russia on the implementation of the project."
"This marks a very important project for the development of energy relations between the two countries being a strategic contract for the two sides in addition to providing economic benefits," said Falahatian.
The official further noted that the third axis of the talks had to do with Russia's participation in Iran's water sector by exploring the deep waters; "on the basis of the discussions between the Russian side and Iranian water sector managers in the ministry of energy, it was decided to reach an executive agreement after specifying certain priorities on identifying and exploration of deep water resources in various areas," he added.
"It was also decided at the meeting that upon full agreement on the topics listed, the administrative agreement will be finalized and signed during the visit of the Russian president to Iran in the current week," Falahatian concluded.
