Iran army drill codenamed Muhammad Rasulullah 3 began Tuesday morning in the northeastern part of the country with the participation of 177th Infantry units, 38th Torbat-e Jam Armored unit, Zafar military base, artillery units, drones, electronic warfare, and psychological operations (PSYOP) supported by Iran’s Air Force fighters.
Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brig. Gen. Ahmadreza Pourdastan told reporters that the first day of the maneuver comprises defense operations by heavy air and ground artillery firing at positions of the imaginary enemy.
“The drill will continue with combat operations against the enemy in predetermined pathways, Heliborne and anti-Heliborne operations, evacuation of the wounded, as well as modern warfare performed by 177th e-warfare unit,” he said.
The commander maintained that the drill utilizes domestic equipment and weapons designed and developed by engineers from Research and Self-Sufficiency Jihad Organization of the Iranian Army.
Brig. Gen. Pourdastan said on Monday press conference that Muhammad Rasulollah 3 maneuvers would be staged with the aim to boost the country’s defense and security capabilities and to evaluate the combat capabilities of armed forces in proxy wars.
“ISIL cannot pose any danger to Iran because it knows the Islamic Republic’s armed forces will combat them outside of the country’s borders before the terrorists could even cross into the country,” he said.
Muhammad Rasulollah 3 massive drill will continue until 19 November in an area of approximately 60km at the northeastern base of the Army Ground Force.
