Mohammadreza Razfar, director of AUTcup 2015, said during the opening ceremony of the fifth international competition of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, that under the agreement signed between the International Federation of Robotics and Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT) in November 2014, the AUT will be hosting the international competitions of robotics and the scientific congress of this federation for 2016; “for this purpose, we are hosting the first open Firacup in Iran today in order to prepare the robotic teams for participation in the upcoming world championships,” he said.
The first AUTcup was held in 2009 with seven student leagues. The 2010 completions were held with 22 high school and university leagues, while in 2012 and 2013, 15 leagues participated in the robotics competitions, said Razfar.
According to him, Amirkabir University began hosting artificial intelligence competitions since 2011, with 7 and 10 leagues participating in its first and second rounds, respectively.
Razfar maintained that 90 teams are competing in the fifth AUTcup until Wednesday, adding “60 teams are participating in robotics competitions and 30 others are participating in the section of artificial intelligence.”
He noted that Iran is hosting the first open Firacup simultaneously with the AUTcup 2015, adding “at FIRA Executive Committee which was held in Beijing, China last year, Iran was selected as host for FIRA 2016.”
Currently, 10 Asian countries, 15 from Europe, 3 from Africa and 6 from America are members of Federation of International Robot-Soccer Association (FIRA).
The fifth international competition of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (AUTcup 2015), the third international competition of Artificial Intelligence (AAIC2015), as well as the first open Firacup 2015 opened at Amirkabir University of Technology on Monday and will continue until November 18, 2015.
