TEHRAN, Nov. 02 (MNA) – Javad Mahjub, Iran’s heavyweight judoka, failed to defeat the German fighter to land 5th in 2015 Abu Dhabi Judo Grand Slam.

Iran’s Javad Mahjub, who had reached the third round of the tournament by three wins and one loss, fought against the world vice-champion Dimitri Peters from Germany.

During the match, the Iranian fighter was superior in terms of scores but the German rival, having scored a yuko with a counterattack on tani-otoshi, concluded with an armlock for ippon.

The loss led Iran's representative to finish 5th in the 2015 Grand Slam.

He had faced a break at the first round; later Mahjub won over the Swedish judoka Martin Pack, Macedonian fighter of UAE’s national team Ivan Remarenco as well as Azerbaijan’s Elkhan Mammadov, 2013 world champion, to reach semi-finals.

However, he was subdued by Lucas Krpalek, 2014 world champion from the Czech Republic to miss the finals.

The tournament was attended by 88 countries’ judo fighters from October 30 to November 1 while Iran’s national team failed to bag medals.
