According to MNA, at the end of the qualifying round of the Freestyle Wrestling World Cup in Brazil, on Sunday night Mojitaba Goleij (84 kg) and Amir Taheri (120 kg) marched to the final competitions.
Accordingly, on the second day of the competitions, in the 55-kilogram weight category, Mohammad Namjoo Motlagh was ranked 5th. But, Mojtaba Goleij (84 kg) and Amir Taheri (120 kg) who had advanced to the World Cup final could get gold and silver medals respectively.
Dzianis Khamiankou (BLR), this year’s Junior European bronze medalist, had a tough time getting offense going against Goleij who controlled the mat and the pace from start to finish. Goleij looked brilliant in the night’s 84kg finals racking up four takedowns and an exposure to find the 12-2 technical fall in the second period.
Based on these results and considering 1 gold and 3 silver medal achieved by Iran’ wrestlers on the first day, Iran could take Junior World Freestyle Title for the second time in a row.
Iran won the team title with 62 points, followed by Azerbaijan with 58 and Russia with 49, respectively.
