Sheikh al-Nimr execution prolongation of divisive policies

TEHRAN, Jan. 04 (MNA) – Iranian FM has deemed the execution of Sheikh al-Nimr as a step forward in pursuing divisive policies as well as supporting radical terrorists.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif made separate telephone conversations with a number of regional countries’ FMs, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as well as EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini and expressed condemnation of the inhuman act of executing the brave and innocent martyr Sheikh Baqir Nimr al-Nimr as contrary to international standards of human rights; “the action was in line with sectarian policies and supported extremist terrorists who have slaughtered the region as well as the world,” he stressed.

Zarif warned against the deleterious consequences of such actions in promoting extremism and emphasized the need for coordinated regional and international actions in order to prevent threats against religious groups as well as to avoid sectarian-based policies.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry further stressed the absolute commitment of the Islamic Republic Iran to protection of diplomatic premises.
