The sheikh's brother, Mohammed al-Nimr, said Rusiya Al-Yaum on Sunday that the body of the martyr was buried without his family's knowledge.
"My family had hoped to bury him in his hometown in eastern Saudi Arabia, however, Saudi officials said the body will not be handed over to the family."
Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr was among 47 prisoners executed by Saudi Arabia on Saturday in a provocative move.
The Saudi action brought international condemnation of killing prominent Shia leader, including Amnesty International, the European Union and UN Secretary General Ban ki-Moon who expressed concern over the issue.
